Frequently Asked Questions

My computer runs slow. Should I replace it?

That depends. If you use your computer for the same tasks as you did when you bought it, and if it was fast enough back then, replacing it is most likely not necessary.

Poor computer performance can be the result of too many programs loading on startup, a hard drive that needs to be defragmented, inefficient anti-virus software, or perhaps even spyware or viruses.

Give us a call, and for $25 we will let you know what the best course of action is. Note that a Best Buy or similar store will ALWAYS tell you to buy a new computer, since they sell them there!! We will clearly inform you of the pros and cons of replacing or repairing your older PC.

I would like to buy a new computer. Can I move my photos/favorites/etc from my old computer to the new one?

Yes, you can. Windows has some mechanisms built in since Windows XP to migrate all user files and settings to another PC. Unfortunately, that sometimes brings some clutter with it as well, and is not always the most efficient option.

We can help you selectively move your files and settings to your new PC and keep the clutter on your old one! Usually this process takes 1-2 hours, depending on the amount of data that needs to be migrated. We will walk you through all your photo/mp3/email/favorites folders and you can decide what you do and don’t want to move over!

I have Microsoft Office (or any other program) on my old PC. I would like to use it on my new one. Can I copy it?

No, you can’t plainly copy any program from one to another PC. It needs to be installed. If you have the original CD or DVD’s, that is a relatively easy task. If you do not have those, or the software was part of a preinstalled package on your old PC, you may need to buy a new copy to legally be able to install it on your new PC.
